Will Olympics be a barrier to my blackberries?

Yet another public space being taken from the public. This time on Leyton Marshes where they are building (within weeks of it first being made public) practice court, though the sign on the wire fence says Olympic village.

I ride up the side of Leyton Marshes, then under the railway bridge, to pick my blackberries. If where the fence is now is the outer edge, then I'll be OK - as long a security doesn't block yet further our rights of way.

  1. Hi. Yes, and it isn't the first time that gardeners have suffered as a result of the Olympic project. Several years ago, a whole allotment site, where people have gardened for over a hundred years, on a site that was meant to be in perpetuity to the people of the area, was flattened to make way for part of the Olympic city. The allotmenteers were given a muddy field instead. Progress, eh?

  2. I cycle pass their new site on the way to the Navigation. They had terrible problems their first year there (but what would one expect of land at the bottom of a lane called "Marsh Lane"?) Haven't heard anything since, so hoping no news is good news. The Lammas Lands Defence Committee didn't want them there but couldn't prove it was part of the Lammas Lands. We are supposed to be getting it back, but if the promise is kept (not holding our breaths) it's another move for the allotment holders!
