Fallen branches for woodburning stove

On my way home yesterday from the busstop I passed some branches from an ornamental cherry street tree - one large branch and several smaller ones.  I dumped my bags at home and then went back and dragged the big branch home and put it in my tiny front garden. It was longer than the width of my front room, sticking out into the garden path by a couple of feet.  Went back and got most of the smaller  branches too.

Off today and this afternoon managed to saw up half the big branch into logs before it started to rain again. Probably a good thing as don't want to damage my back having not sawn for a while, especially as I had my monthly session with my osteopath only this morning! Did saw from alternate sides so using both left and right hands to saw, as that balance helps prevent harm to the back.

  1. Helen,

I am soooooo glad I am not the only one who collects fallen branches.... I take one of those little blue IKEA bags and fill it up when I walk the dog! I have to be quick or he gets them first. I have some large ones as I stated in one of my posts that I need to get cut up... luckily my dad has a chainsaw and a licence to use it so he makes easy work of it!

I am hoping to get my central heating changed as I have an old boiler that is about 25 years old!!! There is a company locally that installs woodburuning stoves and central heating so I am going to price this up!!!! I am sooooo excited as I love them!

Hope you had a lovely day off and you are not aching too much from your sawing ;o))

    xx

  2. I'm OK carrying the wood home, but very self conscious picking up - prefer no one to be looking then!

I still have gas central heating, and a woodburning stove which can heat the sitting room (really warm and cosy) and the dining room. Cats love it and very nice when I have visitors in the winter. Even at current gas/wood, prices, I don't think I save money.

I haven't found how to keep the stove going longer than an hour without needing me to feed it again. So if you find out how, please let me know!

My back is OK, but having problem with one knee, which I don't think I can blame on the sawing! Very wet now so it will a while before I can carry on sawing the cherry wood.
