I got some tidying done today, but, as I suspected, not very much got rid of.
I have started some fig whisky using a recipe from the December issue of Country Living, though missing out the orange rind.
I love country liquors. I picked some lovely large sloes this year, but didn't have any gin. By the time I remembered to get some I realised I should have left the lid off the container to give the sloes a chance to dry out, as some had gone mouldy and I dared not risk the rest.
The Country Living recipe says ready in a month, but I usually leave for 3.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI have just started following your blog and I have to say I am impressed with all the things you are doing to try and be greener..I am attempting o do the same thing too. Anyway, I was scanning through your posts and noticed you have attempted alot of the achoholic beverages I have ;O) I have so far done elderflower Champagne, Blackberry vodka, damson vodka and Sloe gin, so when I saw your Fig Whisky I was eager to find a recipe!!! I have scoured the internet to no avail!!! Would it be possible for you to write it on your blog or do it as a comment on my blog - http://mylifediet.blogspot.com/ as I would love to try it and so would my dad!!!
Thanks Natalie(AKA Nellilou)
hello, Natalie
ReplyDeleteThe recipe is 700ml whisky, thinly pared rind of 1 orange (but I haven't used this), 6 cloves, 150g roughly chopped dried figs, 100g soft light brown sugar. Put all ingredients in a large, sealable jar. Store in dark, cool place, turning at least once a day until sugar disolved. Leave for a month (though I'll leave for 3, so haven't tried it yet. Bottle.
I'll now try your blog, and also see if the notes from my blogging workshop explain how to link it to mine. Lovely to connect with others with similar ideas. Regards Helen
Thank you so much!!!! I will check on my blog too!!!
ReplyDeleteI stumbled upon your blog yesterday and love the things you are doing....keep up the good work and I'll be trying that whisky recipe very soon!!
